ICRF
August 20, 2025

At the Iowa Coalition for Reproductive Freedom, we believe in facts, integrity, and the fundamental right of Iowans to make their own healthcare decisions. That mission is guided by a board of professionals who bring decades of experience in medicine, law, public service, and advocacy.

Meet the individuals who are helping shape the direction of ICRF and why their leadership matters in the fight for reproductive freedom in Iowa.

Dr. Emily Boevers, MD – Board President & OB/GYN

Dr. Boevers is a practicing OB/GYN in rural Iowa and a vocal advocate for patient autonomy. With firsthand experience navigating the impacts of healthcare policy on patients, she brings a powerful combination of clinical insight and moral clarity to her role. Her voice is central to our mission of ensuring access to medically accurate, patient-centered care across the state.

Lisa-Marie Wright – Strategic Communications & Community Advocate

Lisa-Marie Wright brings over 30 years of experience in strategic communications, relationship management, and professional development across both public and private sectors. She has coached and mentored hundreds of professionals on message delivery and leadership growth. A passionate community advocate, Lisa-Marie has chaired and led numerous fundraising and event efforts for organizations in Des Moines, helping strengthen local impact through connection and collaboration.

Dane Schumann, JD – Legal Counsel

Dane Schumann is a founding board member of ICRF and a Des Moines-based attorney specializing in litigation and government affairs. He advocates for clients defending reproductive freedom at the Iowa Capitol and beyond. After beginning his legal career in the Chicago area, Dane returned to Iowa to serve on the Legislature’s caucus staff and later worked as a lobbyist and attorney before launching his own law practice in 2021. He represents a diverse array of clients across the state and brings a deep understanding of policy, law, and legislative strategy to ICRF’s mission.

Emily Webb, JD

Emily Webb is a legal expert focused on protecting civil liberties and bodily autonomy. With a passion for public health and patient rights, she ensures ICRF’s messaging and advocacy efforts remain rooted in both legal precedent and human dignity.

Dr. Francesca Turner, DO – OB/GYN & Advocate for Equitable Women's Healthcare

Dr. Francesca Turner is a board-certified OB/GYN at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. She provides comprehensive reproductive and gynecologic care with a focus on equity, education, and access for all patients. A graduate of Des Moines University and the Mercy Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program, Dr. Turner is dedicated to improving outcomes for women and families across Iowa. Her commitment to community health and reproductive freedom drives her work with ICRF.

Dr. William H. Newland, MD – OB/GYN & Women's Health Advocate

Dr. Newland practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Central Iowa for 38 years. Throughout his career, he’s been a dedicated voice for women’s rights across all life stages—from adolescence through elder years. He has served on numerous boards and community initiatives aimed at promoting equitable healthcare access and advancing reproductive freedom in Iowa.

Brian Massa - Government Relations Strategist

Brian Massa directs government relations strategy for the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign, a grassroots advocacy initiative focused on reducing vaccine-preventable child deaths in low- and middle-income countries. Prior to joining the UN Foundation, Brian served in the health policy office of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), where he specialized in global health, infectious disease, vaccine development, and biosecurity. His expertise brings a valuable global perspective to ICRF’s mission.

Niki Hinton – Non-profit Fundraiser & Community Advocate

Niki Hinton is a seasoned fundraiser who has worked with charitable nonprofits across Iowa to uplift marginalized communities and support progressive growth. She joined the ICRF board to help more people understand the devastating long-term impacts of Iowa’s anti-abortion laws.
